Before the official opening for the public, load tests were carried out on the cable car between the areas of Krupová and Kosodrevina in the resort of Chopok Juh. The tests with the so called “dead weight” are the last step which is necessary to fulfill conditions before the regular operation begins. The new 15-person gondola cable car was transporting 30 kg sacks with gravel in its cars between Krupová and Kosodrevina. The total load used was 13.24 tonnes. In order to test the braking system, 10 cars were filled, each with 1,324 kg. The route of the new cable car has a very interesting profile because it copies the 4-seater chairlift of Srdiečko – Kosodrevina. To keep a safe height above ski slopes, an almost 32-metre-high support pole had to be built. Cars of the cable car made by the Austrian Doppelmayr company have been made to resist wind gusts of 22 m/s and surmount an altitude difference of 403 metres. The cable car is 1,212 metres long, the trip takes 4 minutes 50 seconds, the maximum speed is 6.0 m/s and the transport capacity is 2,800 people per hour. The cable car with 30 cars has a lower station in Krupová (1,084 m above sea level) and travels to the upper station in Kosodrevina (1,488 m above sea level). Skiers can thus use comfortable transport and change smoothly to another 15-person cable car that travels to the top of Mt. Chopok. Complicated changing of ski lifts and chairlifts is now history.

From the upcoming weekend, there will be 27 km of ski pistes available for skiers on Mt. Chopok. A new ski bus line will be operating between Banská Bystrica and Krupová (in the resort of Chopok Juh) from 26th December 2016 to 19th March 2017 at weekends, on bank holidays and on holidays of the Banská Bystrica region. It will be free of charge, the departure station will be the bus station of Banská Bystrica and skiers will use their ski passes, i.e. GOPASS cards as travel tickets.
