The chairlift of Lomnické sedlo starts to operate two weeks after alpine tourist trails were opened for summer again and after the last traces of snow that could be risky and slippery finally melted. “The chairlift that operates between Skalnaté pleso and Lomnické sedlo is going to be available again every day from Saturday 27th June. The opening times will be dynamically extended during the summer, with 6:30pm as the maximum upper limit. When travelling with the 2-seater black-grey chairlift, tourists can literally feel the embrace of mountain summits. The walk from the upper chairlift station along a trail to Mt Veľká Lomnická veža is really unforgettable,” explained Lukáš Brodanský, the manager of the Vysoké Tatry mountain resort.
Tourists can not only feast their eyes on the summer version of the most attractive and steepest black ski piste in Slovakia there but also have a ringside seat with the whole Popradská kotlina (basin) under them. On the other side, there are steep rock cliffs of Malá Studená dolina (valley) lined by the ridge of Mt Prostredný hrot. Popular Mt Slavkovský štít looks differently from there too. Its typical round silhouette seems steeper when compared to the more common view from Popradská kotlina. Lomnické sedlo, located at the altitude of 2,190 metres, is not only a great outlook spot but also a cult location where the famous Copper Tower film was shot. Skalnaté pleso, from where the already mentioned chairlift operates to Lomnické sedlo, is accessible by cable cars or on foot. A cable car operates from Tatranská Lomnica to the interchange Štart station and another one from Štart to Skalnaté pleso. Or one can walk up along a medium-difficult tourist trail, which takes about two hours. Cable car tickets are already available in the Gopass online shop.
Skiers who visit the High Tatras can now travel to Lomnické sedlo for free – the special bonus is meant for those who prepay their Smart Season Passes 2020/21 until 31.8.2020. Once they pay EUR 99, the following 3 cable car trips are included for free: 1 x Tatranská Lomnica – Lomnické sedlo, 1 x Štrbské Pleso – Solisko and 1 x Jasná – Mt Chopok. Then in September, they can make their final decision and pay either a Jasná & Vysoké Tatry Smart Season Pass remainder or choose a PREMIUM Smart Season Pass, which offers skiing not only in Jasná and the High Tatras, but also in Špindlerův Mlýn (CZ), Szczyrk (PL), and in Mölltaler Gletscher and the neighbouring Ankogel resort in Austria.
Summer hiking is one of the top attractions in the High Tatras. There is a wide choice of trails of various difficulty levels, many cable cars are ready to transport tourists to beautiful locations around the Tatras, such as the Solisko Express chairlift in Štrbské Pleso, a well-known funicular between Starý Smokovec and Hrebienok, cable cars between Tatranská Lomnica and Skalnaté pleso, from where a unique cable car operates to Mt Lomnický štít (2,634m).
The High Tatras are fully prepared to welcome the summer and tourists can look forward to a variety of attractions. Popular boating is available in Štrbské Pleso, mountain carts promise adventures between Štart and Tatranská Lomnica. Kids can join the amusing educational eco-friendly project of the Tatra Wilderness again and discover accessible destinations in the High Tatras with four animal friends – Jurko the Marmot, Karol the Eagle, Kubo the Bear and Pirin the Chamois. This year´s version is called “Let´s play” and contains 7 adventures and 2 leisure time tasks. Tatra Wilderness workbooks full of exciting stories offer great fun for kids but also their parents and can even help them win attractive prizes. The “Guide to Tatra Wilderness” workbooks are added to all kid´s cable car tickets for free. Kids under 6 years can have the workbooks for free as well.
Small tourists will also love the well-known playground in Skalnaté pleso, located next to the cable car station building. The Marmot Land guarantees great fun but also teaches kids something about the fauna of the Tatras. Parents who want to let their children enjoy more adrenalin shouldn´t miss the Eagle Land amusement park in Štrbské Pleso with trampolines and electric mini cars.
All popular hotels in the High Tatras are opened again after the recent forced break.
