“Štrbské Pleso is a family resort that lacks a blue ski slope with the easiest level of difficulty. There will be a new blue slope for beginners and less experienced skiers. Steep parts will be adapted to the needs of our clients so we will change the level of difficulty in several sections,“ said Peter Tomko, director of the mountain resort of Štrbské Pleso.

Terrain works will start between the existing slopes of Esíčko and Interski. In the central part, the track of the H-130 Interski ski lift will be connected with the slope Spojka. There will be a new upper part of the slope starting at the future upper station of a cableway which will replace the 40-year old H-130 Interski ski lift. And the central part of the Solisko slope will be connected with the Furkota slope.

Heavy mechanisms will be used on a section with dwarf pine stands. This will cause noise which can´t be avoided. The surface of slopes has to be made as even as possible to be sown with grass seeds from neighbouring meadows afterwards. To avoid erosion, the surface of the slope will be filled with hay and steep parts will be covered with jute netting. Jute is a natural material that helps to fight erosion in the first years. When it falls apart, it is a good fertiliser for the grass. The terrain and grass stand on slopes are revitalised every year.

The smallest skiers will get a new area in the winter season of 2013/14, located above the lower station of the Solisko cableway, separated from the existing slopes. So there will be a separate area for a ski kindergarten.

Investments in slopes and artificial snow making comprise 370,000 EUR. New investments in cableways in the value of 5 million EUR are planned for the winter season of 2014/15. A 6-seater detachable chairlift will replace the old ski lift, which fails to meet the demands of clients on the Solisko slope in bad weather (wind, fog).
