Tomorrow, the slopes that lead down from top of Mt. Chopok in the resort of Jasná will be tested for the first time in this season. Trails that are going to be opened on the northern side of the mountain include red slopes no 1c Pretekárska section Chopok – Konský Grúň, no 1b Pretekárska section Konský Grúň – Luková, no 1a Pretekárska section Luková – Priehyba, no 2 Májová and black trail no 13 Biela Púť. Those who want to enter the ski resort on the southern side of the mountain can use a modern 15-person cable car to get to the northern side and ski there or they can stay on the southern side and enjoy their day on the red trail no. 31 called Slnečná, section Kosodrevina – Srdiečko. There will be 5.05 km of slopes opened for keen skiing lovers in the Low Tatras on the first day of the season. Currently, snow is being made on other blue slopes which are ideal for families with children – no 14 Lúčky and no 5 Turistická on the northern side of Mt. Chopok, and no 36 Krupová on the southern side. Their opening depends on weather and snow conditions.

While the weather gods are not on the side of ski resorts in the Alps, we have been enjoying freezing days in the Tatras and the conditions to launch the ski season are ideal. Adam Žampa, our best alpine skier, who has been the first local Tatra person to test the slopes of Interski in the resort of Štrbské Pleso these days, confirms: “The temperature was 10 degrees below zero in the Tatras at the end of last week. The resort operators allowed me and my team to pour water on the slope. This created an ice lawyer, which means conditions similar to those of the world cup and ideal for me to train on. We were about to go to Austria to participate in the European cup but the event has been cancelled as the temperatures are above zero there. The same applies to France, they have 6 degrees, it is warm everywhere in Europe. Only in the Tatras, we have frost and cold so I am training here now. I hope I will be able to ski in Tatranská Lomnica soon and move to Jasná as well,“ said Adam Žampa. Video training from Adam Žampa 3. 12.2014 at Štrbské Pleso HERE

The ski season in the High Tatras is going to be launched on Saturday 6th December in the resort of Štrbské Pleso on the slope of Interski (no 3, red) and on the slope of Juniorská (no 6, blue). Snow is being made on the last sections of the blue slope no 4 called Turistická and the red slope of Esíčka no 2. As for the resort of Tatranská Lomnica, they are opening the blue tracks no 1 Štart Západ and no 2 Štart Východ this Saturday. If temperatures do not fall down, red slopes between Skalnaté Pleso and Štart (Esíčka, Generál, Čučoriedky Východ and Čučoriedky Západ) should be opened within a few days as well. Skiers will be enjoying 2.85 km of slopes in the High Tatras from Saturday. Along with the slopes in the Low Tatras, there will be almost 8 km of high-quality trails to enjoy for lovers of winter sports. Local Tatra people are expecting a considerable decrease in temperatures on the following days, which should help them continue with snow making and opening further kilometres of slopes.
