The main part of the biggest tennis event in Slovakia – Poprad-Tatry Challenger 2017 with the total prize money of 64,000 EUR + hospitality began on clay on Monday 19th June, the finals are scheduled for Saturday 24th June. “Daniela Hantuchová will come to watch the semi-finals and finals. What´s more, she has given her own racket signed by her to action which will take place in Grandhotel Praha in Tatranská Lomnica on Friday 23rd June and Daniela will be there as well. I hope the charity motif of the biggest tennis event will provide help where it is needed most. The biggest amount of money from the auction will be given to the family of a mountain load bearer who died when rescuing a ski tourer under Zbojnícka chalet, another sum is meant to support young tennis talents in Poprad and a civic association that focuses on sports activities of children in the Tatras. After having supported the hospital of Poprad in 2015, two tennis clubs, a disabled child and a man in a wheelchair in 2016, this is the third time that the auction proceedings will help people in the region of and under the Tatras,” said the general amanager of Poprad–Tatry Challenger 2017 Branislav Stankovič.

Well-known tennis personalities supported the First Christmas gift collection in the Tatras for children from children´s homes that was organised by Grandhotel Praha in Tatranská Lomnica last year in December. Tennis has been related to the Tatras for over one hundred years and tennis players are in contact with Tatra peaks also when training here or enjoying relaxation. “The locality of the Tatras, its natural treasures and tourism attract the wide public as well as popular personalities and well-known sportsmen to spend free time here by being active or relaxing. I hope the original idea of this significant tennis event will be fulfilled one day and professional tennis will be played in the very heart of the Tatras,” concluded Miloslav Mečíř, the president of Poprad–Tatry Challenger 2017.

The TMR company is the main partner of the event along with the town of Poprad, the tourism organisation of OOCR Región Vysoké Tatry and Aquacity Poprad.
