The race was held in four categories: men and women on skis vs. men and women on
snowboards. “Being part of the world freeride tour FWQ for 4 years already, we brought the race
back to “domestic rides” this year. There were 61 riders participating in total,“ said Matej Hulej,
the race director. Slovak elite riders like Anton Majtán, Katarína Lehocká and Veronika Bracíková
showed high-quality rides although the snow on the slope was rather hard. The track with
vertical drop of 400 metres on slopes with inclination of 35-50 degrees was not long but difficult
as for the style. Alpha and omega of judging is the difficulty of jumps, choice of the track,
continuity, technical performance with e.g. front flips /somersaults/, which raises the number of
points.

“Everybody who wants to begin with freeride should master the technique on a groomed slope
firstly. And proceed to the free terrain afterwards. Buying a pair of powder skis is not enough.
One needs to check the avalanche situation and snow quality, which can be learned at one of
avalanche camps organised more times per season in the resort of Jasná,“ added Matej Hulej.
The best freeride skiers of CGC Jasná Adrenalín 2013 were Philip Matejko from Poland and Katarína
Lehotská from Slovakia. Snowboard was dominated by Petr Novák from the Czech Republic and
Paulina Nowik from Poland.

The Jasná Adrenalin race is organised according to FWQ (Freeride World Qualifier) race rules for
extreme skiing. As for the extreme downhill, race skiers have to master a highly exposed ungroomed
slope in a limited space with natural obstacles. The race in Jasná is organised by the Slovak
Association of Freeride Skiers (SAFL), which was established in 2002 in order to unite people
interested in freeride skiing. It organises the Jasná Adrenalin race every year and creates conditions
for this sport in Slovakia.
