“I am looking forward to the race very much. Last year I enjoyed a great atmosphere at the Slovak Championships in Jasná and hope my family and friends will be supporting me again and the race will be cool. The biggest expectation for me is the renewed snow park where I can train while working. The spectators will really love it, I am sure. My friends from Poland Szczepan Karpiel and Zuza Witych promised to come as well. After the Slovak Cup, I am attending the Czech Cup in Deštné, Big Air in Kremnica, the World Cup in Pyongyang, South Korea; and also the European Cup in Seiser Alm, Italy,“ said Natália Šlepecká, a top-class Slovak freestyle skier and national team member.
The “open“ race type enables anybody to take part in the “slopestyle” discipline of the Slovak Cup who is interested. There are categories of men, women and juniors (14 – 18 years). “The course will contain several obstacles (rails) as well as jumps where the riders can present their top skills. Time is not important, the evaluation focuses more on the difficulty of the tricks, the style of riding, the variety of styles, landing and the overall ride. As for the qualification, every rider has two rides to make. Then top eight men, five women and five juniors qualify for the finals. A professional jury will be judging which of the two rides of individual racers is better and decides about the winners of the race. All participants will be competing to win prize money from the Slovak Ski Association in the total amount of 1,700 Euro. Only registered riders can become Slovak Cup winners. Freeskiing i.e. freestyle skiing or newschool skiing is a rather new skiing discipline which falls into the Section of Freestyle Skiing of the Slovak Ski Association. It consists of the following categories: slopestyle, freeride, big-air and half-pipe. The Slovak national team currently has 6 sportsmen including two women. The slopestyle category was officially introduced at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, where our country was represented by Zuzana Stromková and the above mentioned Natália Šlepecká.
